About ISR

ISR is a diverse organisation committed to 'Putting faith to work' in the community and in the workplace.

We aim to express Christian values at work and in economic life and by working for social justice with church communities in the South West.

We support and resource the work of churches and other faith communities across the greater Bristol and north Wiltshire area in order to encourage individuals and groups of Christians to be active in civil society.

We are founded on values of hope, integrity, justice, compassion and creativity and seek to embed these values in all our activity. Please consider helping ISR with funding.

Community

At ISR we profoundly believe in the value of working across our neighbourhoods, sharing experiences and resources within our communities and engaging with others who share our concerns and commitments to a better world.

Church

ISR works in churches, to help them identify and act upon their strengths. We are a resource for growth and mission, and we play a consultancy role for churches with ideas that need forming and shaping

Work

ISR supports workplace mission and ministry and actively leads on a number of workplace chaplaincies together with more embryonic and emerging programmes to support people in their place of work.

Speaking Out

Christianity teaches love, support and engagement. We value all that is good with the world, but equally, seek to question those situations which could be improved. We are challenged, as Christians, to speak out.

BUSINESS & ECONOMIC LIFE

ISR currently provides chaplaincy support to Rolls Royce, Airbus, Broadmead, Avon & Somerset Police, Wiltshire Police, Fire & Rescue Services, Bristol Docks, Manufacturing Industry, Economic life in Swindon.

Industrial mission and chaplaincy are the terms used to describe the church's formal engagement with the economy and commercial activity. Our aim is to offer ministry to all people without prejudice or favour toward the Christian faith. We work with people of any faith as well as those with no professed belief.

Offering ministry means being present, making contact and building relationships with people and organisations. It is important in this process for the chaplains to understand the particular activity of the company or organisation. Industrial mission is interested in some of the issues that are raised in manufacturing, administration, governance and commerce. This interest is pursued with confidentiality and empathy.

Some of ISR's team of chaplains are Ordained ministers, other are not.

PUBLIC LIFE & SOCIAL JUSTICE

ISR is engaged on a number of levels with governmental organisations and structures. These range from local strategic partnerships to regional and national agencies such as the South West Regional Development Agency, and include:

- Engaging with local authorities

- Co-ordinating the Major Emergency Plan

- Promoting environmental action

- Promoting Christian perspectives on social policy
